The amount of caffeine is different for each coffee and depends on three factors: the proportion of Robusta in the blend (Robusta contains twice as much caffeine as Arabica), and the quantity of ground coffee and water used to prepare the cup.
For Vertuo, the caffeine content varies depending on the cup size and coffee blend:
- Espresso (40ml): 70-150mg/cup
- Gran Lungo (150ml): 120-200mg/cup
- Mug (230ml) and Alto (414ml): 140-200mg/cup
- Half Caffeinato (230ml): 90mg/cup

It is totally normal that some of the water or coffee flows/drops into the capsule container. Mostly it happens when you do not insert a capsule into the machine, and the rewing unit is not sealed with the capsule.
The capsule container can hold 5 or 6 used capsule. Coffee/water is also collected in the drip tray in the same time (about half in this time). It is advisable to empty it regularly because the collected liquid flows easily.
If the capsule is deformed or improperly inserted, the brewing unit will not close tightly and water will flow straight through to the coffee outlet or to the drip tray.
If the problem persists and there is a huge amount of water in the drip tray, please contact Nespresso

With the Centrifusion ™ technology of Nespresso Vertuo machines, you can also extract the last drop of aromas from each Vertuo capsule. The system spins the capsule at 4,000 rpm, mixing the coffee grounds with the hot water to create a crema that is guaranteed to crown your favorite coffee.
The different extraction phases are as per follow:
- The capsule is read and all of the extraction parameters are defined
- Infusion: the machine injects water in the capsule
- Centrifusion: the machine rotates the capsule while continuously injecting water to extract all the aromas of the coffee and create the perfect crema
- Finalisation: the rotation reaches up to 4000 rotations per minute to fully extract the coffee and to dry the capsule.
