The caffeine content may vary for each assortment and is influenced by two major factors: the amount of Robusta used in a capsule (Robusta contains twice as much caffeine as Arabica),as well as the quantity of ground coffee used to prepare the cup. For instance, the caffeine level for Espresso and Gran Lungo sizes ranges from 70 to 150 mg, and for Mug and Alto it may vary from 170 to 200 mg.For Carafe, the caffeine content is between 220 and 250 mg, but this particular coffee size is recommended to be drank in 2 or 3 portions.

Nespresso coffee varieties contain between 60 and 90 mg caffeine.
The caffeine concentration depends partly on the amount of coffee used to prepare the coffee, and the variety of green coffee used in the capsule.
Also the level of caffeine will depend on the amount in which each variety is extracted.
The Robusta origin contains an average of 2.4% whereas the Arabica origins contain approx. 1.2% of caffeine. Decaf capsules contain less than 0.1% of caffeine.
Below are examples or average caffeine contents according to the type of coffee preparation (values are based on UK Food Safety Authorities 2001): Cup of filter coffee: 40-100 mg Mug of instant coffee: 40-100 mg Tea cup: 25-110 mg Standard cola drink: up to 50 mg Standard energetic drink: 80 mg Black chocolate bar: up to 50mg (Milk chocolate. 25mg).

The intensity is defined by a coffee's degree of roasting, its body and its bitterness. In addition the intensity is due to the concentration of the coffee. It does not refer to the amount of caffeine found in the coffee.
