Why is there extra coffee or water in the wastewater container on my Vertuo UP machine?

This is normal for this machine and not a leakage.

Normal System Behaviour

• The vertical‑spinning capsule system sends some extra liquid into the drip tray during ejection.
• A built‑in channel directs excess water/coffee into the tray to keep the brewing unit clean.
• Between 5-9ml may go into the drip after each coffee preparation
• You may need to empty the tray more often, but this improves hygiene and reduces maintenance.

Empty & Clean

• Empty the wastewater container whenever you empty the capsule container.
• Clean and dry all parts before putting them back.

Check for Accidental Rinse

• Pressing the coffee button without a capsule trigger a short rinse (~40 ml), with ~20 ml going into the tray.
• This water is not drinkable.

If the cup stays empty

• This could indicate a machine leak or a damaged capsule preventing proper sealing.
• Try again with a new, undamaged capsule to confirm.
