Why are there four different sized capsules and five sizes of coffee for Vertuo Next?

The four capsule sizes create different sized coffees. The smallest capsules make espressos. The medium sized capsules make double espressos and Gran Lungos. The large capsules make mug-sized (230ml) and the extra-large capsules make Carafe Pour-Over Style coffees.
